If your company provides one-on-one or small group instruction, then individualized attention sets your company apart from other education options. Creating systems to provide parents with regular feedback reinforces the value of your services and can directly add to your bottom line. On the other hand, a lack of efficient and timely communication can lead parents to question the value they receive for the extra money they spend.
If a student requires supplemental assistance, then it is likely that they have struggled with the subject in the past. Parents know about their child's challenges and do not necessarily expect tutoring to provide an instant magic fix. But parents' frustration is understandable if their child comes home with a poor test grade or report card after they have received weeks of instruction.
With regular communication the same struggling student is likely to remain a client for a long time. Again, parents knows about their child's difficulties. However, this may be the first time that an educator is taking the time to keep parents informed. This creates a relationship where the educator, student, and parents work together to problem solve and create effective solutions, solutions that can oftentimes mean adding additional weekly sessions. If the problem is ultimately addressed, and the student improves, then parents will be happy to spend the additional funds. Conversely, parents are not likely to add additional sessions if they are unaware that the current amount of assistance is insufficient to meet the student's educational goals.
